Winter Weather / School Closure 2025/26

In the case of bad weather our emergency closure procedures are as follows:

We will endeavour to keep school open wherever possible.  

If the decision is taken to close school before the start of the school day we will try to change the message on the school answer machine and / or answer the phone – staffing permitting – so please phone school if you are unsure.  

We will also put the information on our school website –

• www.stainton.cumbria.sch.uk – and potentially put notices up at school 
• We will inform Greatest Hits Cumbria Radio (102.5 FM Penrith area) and BBC Radio Cumbria (95.2 or 95.6 FM).  So please listen to the radio for school closures.
• We will inform Westmorland and Furness Council which will the be shown on their school closure page of their website: https://www.westmorlandandfurness.gov.uk/
• We will post it on the school Facebook page

 School will only close during the school day in exceptional circumstances in which case we will put this on our website and endeavour to contact parents by email.   Therefore, could parents please ensure they inform us of any changes in mobile numbers and / or email addresses.

Where parents travel to school by car we are happy to allow you to use your discretion as to the safety of travel – especially taking note of police travel advice – and either not attempt journeys to school or collect children from school early.
