Spellings are set weekly and each child is given spellings suited to their ability. These are given on a Monday and children will be tested the following Monday. All children have a green spelling book in which to practise their spellings, and also to write their spelling scores and any words that were spelled incorrectly to help keep you updated with your child's progress.
It is important that children understand the meaning of the word as well as how to spell them. One of the ways in which we practise this in school, is using a dictionary to look up the word and find out the meaning, then put the word into a sentence of their own.
